New Temple pictures

I did a few temple pictures for Christmas gifts. Shannon and Joey were married in the Bountiful Temple the same time of year that I took pictures there. I really like to make photos look like art, so I faded out the edges with a Photoshop paint brush and printed it on watercolor paper. It turned out very nice! I sent it off to them in time for them to get it for Christmas.

Next, I did one of the Idaho Falls Temple

I did a portrait of my son Kevin and his wife, Angie. I think it turned out rather nice.

Foggy morning on Lake Coeur D'Alene

After Ron left for meetings this morning, I looked out the window and saw FOG. I LOVE fog for pictures. I grabbed my camera, bundled up in two coats, gloves and lugged my camera bag with 4 lenses and, of course, tripod. I've learned that you can't guarantee good sharp pix without a tripod. I walked along the beach of Lake Coeur D'Alene and tried to capture the feeling of muffled solitude, enshrouded by fog. There were a lot of geese and they provided a center of interest. I walked probably 2-3 miles along the edge of the water. It was so still and quiet. Not very many people around. I had my Ipod and listened to beautiful, soothing music to add to the mood. My fingers froze and quit working, so when I couldn't change lenses anymore, I had to go back to the hotel. It took me an hour to warm up. Funny thing is, I didn't feel uncomfortable while I was on the hunt. It was Fun!!!

Coeur D'Alene

I'm with Ron in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, at a Grain Growers convention. I always look forward to going with him because I have time to do things while he's in meetings. The first night we got here, it was raining and the Christmas lights were up. There was a tree lined avenue with lights that I loved the look of. See what you think.

We visited the Sacramento Temple while we were in Northern California. Ron had a meeting for the Grain Growers Board of Directors in Boise after we left the Oregon coast. I went and got some good images of the Temple in Boise while he was in meetings.

Trip to California

Ron & I took a trip down California way this last week. It has been a wonderful opportunity to see new country and capture the beauty of the world. I've taken a ton of pictures and it's going to take awhile to go through them and get them posted. I hope you enjoy the scenery.

We first went to Reno where I got some pix of the temple. I'll be doing some more work on these pictures later.

Down the road, we went to Lake Taho to look around. It was nice. This is one of many from there.

I don't know exactly where this is. Somewhere on the way to Sacramento. I was looking for some red foilage reflecting on some water. This was a beautiful, quiet, peaceful place.

I think I'll have time to get more posted tomorrow.

Have you ever seen a Fogbow?

My friend, Krista, and I went up to Swan Valley early this morning to catch some fall color. The valley was covered with a layer of fog and from on top of the hill, a few trees were peeking through the mist. This is one of my favorites.

As the fog lifted, we noticed this strange bow formation that the fog made. I captured it with my wide angle lens. I've never seen anything like this before. It was an awesome sight.

I sent some other pictures files off to a contest in Colorado sponsored by the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins. It was open to photographers nationwide and guess what!! One of my pictures was selected. The hollyhock with the antique wallpaper in the background was one of 50 chosen to hang in their gallery for December.

I entered this picture also, but it wasn't chosen. I took this when we were in Petra last year. We had hiked to the top of the canyon rim and were on our way down just as the sun was setting. It was a breathtaking sight.

Eastern Idaho Photographic Society

I entered some prints in a photography contest sponsored by the EIPS. The two birds titled 'Companions' got a fourth place ribbon and the peach begonia titled 'Serenity' got an honorable mention. They are hanging in the gallery up at the Eastern Idaho Tech college until October 10. There were some prizes given by business sponsors in Idaho Falls. I got about $100 in gift certificates from various businesses. It's fun to get a little recognition for something I enjoy doing.

This is one of the pictures I entered that I haven't posted here yet. It's a composite of a tree I took last winter and a winter sun glowing through the clouds on a misty morning. I love misty scenes.

This is a hollyhock Patty Goodwin gave me one day this summer while I was out to visit with her. I brought several of them home and got some soft, intimate portraits of them. I really like this one with it's subtle shades of white. I layered it with a wall paper image I took when I was in Montana. This is a closeup macro of one of my peach colored begonias that I took earlier this spring. I call it 'Nesteled'. It feels so safe, secure and peaceful.

I'm back

It's been a really busy month. I'm trying to fit my 'hobby' in the cracks of all the other things that need to be done.

Today, I just took some time I didn't really have to go through some older pix. I wanted to pull out some potential winners. This is one I took when I was at the Bird Refuge this last sprint. I like the rhythm created by the two birds.

My Favorite Flowers

These peach colored Begonias are my all time favorite flower. I get such a peaceful feeling when I look at this image. I love it!! I'm going to make a really big print of it and hang it in my office at home.Next to the peach begonias, I have a beautiful white begonia with pink edges. It's my second favorite. This is a Clematis blossom, close up. I planted some on each side of our garage. This is the second year they have bloomed and they had alot more flowers on them than they did last year. I hope next year they'll be loaded. They are really pretty when all the blooms are out.

New Textures

I got some awesome texture pictures at Bannack City . There were alot of doors with interesting textures. When I took this one, I thought that it would look good as a frame around another picture. This is a photo of the Masonic Hall. They had school on the first floor and the Masonic rooms were upstairs.

Get away to Montana

Ron & I took a few days off and headed towards Darby, Montana. It's BIG country. We wanted to take a primitive road that goes from Conner to Riggins, Idaho. We drove to Montana on Monday and stayed in a little cabin at Darby for the night. When we got up, we stopped by the ranger station & they told us the road was still closed with snow and downed trees. Change of plan....we drove down to Wisdom, MT & took a look around.

Here are a few landscapes that I liked.
This is at the Big Hole Battlefield where the Nez Perce indians were camped & the calvary caught up with them....big fight, lots of people killed on both sides. What a waste.
We went to Bannack City, Ghost Town, USA. I found some fantastic textures. I'm not going to post them all now, but will get them on in the next few days. Here is a..... Did you know that Bannack City was the capital of Montana at one time? This was the grande hotel....

We went inside and even though it was very run down and torn apart in places, you could tell that it was once quite magnificent. The staircase was beautiful, even in disrepair. The rooms were large and had very high ceilings. Using your imagination, it was obviously the place where decent folks stayed.

I was out working in my yard when I noticed the sun going down. I ran inside to get my camera and made it just in time to get this most beautiful sunset. It doesn't get much better than this.

Breaking the code

I wanted to add a new category to my website so that each Temple has it's own page. I think my programmer is off doing other things and hasn't been responding to my emails, so I thought I would try and figure out how to change the menu structure to make a drop down menu for LDS Temples....and.....I DID IT!! I even got it to work the first time. I just went and looked at the code that made the Galleries menu drop down on demand, copied & pasted it, modified it so that it said LDS Temples and it worked!! Take a LOOK....

I also realized that I didn't have the Ogden Temple on yet, so I put that on. Here's a peek...

Jordan River Temple

Front view of the Jordan River Temple in West Jordan, Utah. This completes the series of temple prints in the Utah and Idaho valley. I've had a request for the San Diego Temple, which I will try and get to in a few weeks. Are there any other requests? All of these prints are now available on my website at Legacy PhotoArts.

As of right now, I only have the panorama view of the Temples done. I will soon be working on other views in more rectangle sizes. I hope to get them so that they are more affordable and have more options.

Business Names

Welcome to the wishy washy business name person's blog. (Hey, I just realized that WishyWashy would make a neat business name.) I wonder where the term came from...I guess you know what it means. It describes a person who can't make a firm decision. I've had that problem quite a bit over the years.

My very first business name was Photographic Arts....a brief stint as a photographer after graduating from BYU. When children arrived, it fell by the wayside.

After the kids were a little older, I started making little girls fluffy, bouffant slips and frilly, lacey dresses, company name Fluff 'n Twirl. When I started making little boys clothes to add to the mix, the name just didn't fit, so I changed the corporation name to Murdock Apparel, Inc.

Murdock Apparel wasn't very cool for a brand name, so I came up with the name 'Treasures from Heaven'. This name worked for a few years before it began to sound a little corny.

Searching for the ultimate in brand names, we came up with my maternal grandmother's name....Allie Wade. It had a nice vintage sound and worked for quite a few years as the brand name for our line of christening gowns, christening outfits, communion dresses and flower girl dresses that we sold wholesale to retail stores for over 20 years.

In the meantime, we did a short partnership with some very good friends of a local store selling salesmen's samples named Family Fashion Outlet (we're still friends!), we did a retail store in downtown Blackfoot named Ramona's Fashion Essentials selling our dresses locally and added women's clothing, we took over a wedding decorating business we named Special Events, and last, but not least, did a consignment store named Act II. After learning that retail stores in downtown Blackfoot were unprofitable at best, we closed down the brick & morter retail portion of my business life.

While still in the wholesale business, we started a website selling our discontinued christening gowns and accessories. Some of our customers were not pleased with companies who competed with them selling online, so we needed another name that would disguise the fact that we were. Here came business name number 9....One Small Child.com .

As time progressed, the website became quite successful and we discontinued selling wholesale. A website is a lot easier than a wholesale business and I turned the day to day operations over to capable managers. Now, I needed something to do!! So...back to the beginning, photography.

Photographic Arts.com was already taken, so I came up with Misty Morning PhotoArt.com. After I wrote that out a time or two, I thought, woah, that's looonnnggg. When several other people said the exact same thing, I have now changed to a shorter name...LegacyPhotoArts.

Now you all know my weakness....Wishy Washy! shheesh...12 business names.
